Nirupama Prakash Kumar (Niru Kumar), SMIEEE obtained an undergraduate degree in power systems engineering from University of Mysore, India and her MS in Energy Systems from the University of Washington in Seattle. She then went to work for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a Dept. of Energy run National Laboratory. She then completed her MBA from Cornell University and from there she went to work for companies like NextEra Energy, Smart Wires, Bloom Energy and Enphase Energy. She has been focussed on micrograms for close to 15 years now, from doing research with some of the leading US Dept of Energy visionaries to running business development and product management work for companies like NextEra Energy and Bloom Energy. Niru is heavily involved with IEEE and its humanitarian technology efforts. She has been the chair of the Projects and Projects Monitoring committee under the IEEE Humanitarian Activities committee. She has also been the IEEE Region 6 Humanitarian Activities Coordinator and was the ambassador of IEEE Smart Village for close to 6 years. She is currently part of the IEEE PES Entrepreneurship Committee and also part of IEEE USA’s Energy Policy Committee.
